CDC Monthly Respiratory disease and Influenza Bulletin for Year 2022
In December 2022, National Influenza Surveillance sentinel sites collected 306 samples for Influenza and SARS-CoV-2 virus testing. There were 249 samples from Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) at 9 sites in 5 provinces (Figure 1). There were 57 samples from Influenza-Like Illness Surveillance at 17 sites in 16 provinces (Figure 1). Of 13 (5.2%) SARI samples tested positive for influenza viruses, 12 were positive for B/Vic, and 1 positive for A/H1N1pdm. There were 36 (14.5%) positive for SARS-CoV-2 in SARI samples. Of 8 (14.0%) ILI specimens tested positive for influenza, all were positive for B/Vic. In addition, 8 (14.0%) samples detected with positive SARS-CoV-2 in ILI specimens.
In November 2022, National Influenza Surveillance sentinel sites collected 392 samples for Influenza and SARS-CoV-2 virus testing. There were 305 samples from Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) at 9 sites in 5 provinces (Figure 1). There were 87 samples from Influenza-Like Illness Surveillance at 17 sites in 16 provinces (Figure 1). Of 47 (15.4%) SARI samples tested positive for influenza viruses, 42 were positive for B/Vic, 4 positives for A/H3N2, 1 positive for A/H1N1pdm. There were 17 (5.6%) positive for SARS-CoV-2 in SARI samples. Of 48 (55.1%) ILI specimens tested positive for influenza, 37 were positive for B/Vic, 10 positive A/H3N2, and 1 positive for A/H1N1pdm. In addition, 3 (3.9%) samples detected with positive SARS-CoV-2 in ILI specimens.
In October 2022, National Influenza Surveillance sentinel sites collected 458 samples for Influenza and SARS-CoV-2 virus testing. There were 353 samples from Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) at 9 sites in 5 provinces (Figure 1). There were 105 samples from Influenza-Like Illness Surveillance at 17 sites in 16 provinces (Figure 1). Of 82 (23.2%) SARI samples tested positive for influenza viruses, 45 were positive for B/Vic, 35 positives for A/H3N2, 2 positives for A/H1N1pdm. There were 16 (4.5%) positive SARS-CoV-2 detected in SARI samples. Of 67 (63.8%) ILI specimens tested positive for influenza, 33 were positive for A/H3N2, 33 positive B/Vic, and 1 positive for A/H1N1pdm. In addition, there were 3 positive cases of SARS-CoV-2 in ILI specimens.
In September 2022, National Influenza Surveillance sentinel sites collected 506 samples for Influenza and SARS-CoV-2 virus testing. There were 405 samples from Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) at 9 sites in 5 provinces (Figure 1). There were 101 samples from Influenza-Like Illness Surveillance at 17 sites in 16 provinces (Figure 1). Of 405 SARI samples tested, 33 were positive for A/H3N2, 13 positives for B/Vic, 2 positives for A/H1N1pdm, and 27 were positives for SARS-CoV-2. Of 24 ILI specimens tested positive for influenza, 22 and 3 were positive for A/H3N2 and B/Vic, respectively. In addition, there were 7 positive cases of ILI specimens. One specimen tested positive for B/Vic co-infection with SARS-CoV-2 detected in SARI.
In August 2022, National Influenza Surveillance sentinel sites collected 403 samples for Influenza and SARS-CoV-2 virus testing. There were 314 samples from Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) at 9 sites in 5 provinces (Figure 1). There were 89 samples from Influenza-Like Illness Surveillance at 17 sites in 16 provinces (Figure 1). Of 403 samples tested, there were 19 cases of A/H3N2, 1 A/H1N1pdm, and 1 B/Victoria. In addition, there were 40 cases of positive SARS-CoV-2, of which 2 cases were co-infection with A/H3N2.

There were 321 samples from Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) at 9 sites in 5 provinces (Figure 1). There were 84 samples from Influenza-Like Illness Surveillance at 17 sites in 16 provinces (Figure 1). Of 405 samples tested, 10 and 14 were positive for A/H3N2 and SARS-CoV-2, respectively.
In June 2022, National Influenza Surveillance sentinel sites collected 377 samples for Influenza and SARS-CoV-2 virus testing. There were 260 samples from Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) at 9 sites in 5 provinces (Figure 1). There were 117 samples from Influenza-Like Illness Surveillance at 17 sites in 16 provinces (Figure 1). 3 samples were positive for A/H3N2 detected from ILI sentinel sites. In addition, all 377 samples were tested for SARS-CoV-2 with 2 positive cases detected from SARI sentinel sites.

There were 146 samples from Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) at 9 sites in 5 provinces (Figure 1). There were 68 samples from Influenza-Like Illness Surveillance at 17 sites in 16 provinces (Figure 1). There was no positive influenza A and B circulated in ILI and SARI surveillance. In addition, 214 samples were tested for SARS-CoV-2 with 4 positive cases include 1 ILI and 3 SARI cases.

There were 110 samples from Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) at 9 sites in 5 provinces (Figure 1). There were 52 samples from Influenza-Like Illness Surveillance at 17 sites in 16 provinces (Figure 1). There was no positive influenza A and B circulated in ILI and SARI surveillance. In addition, 162 samples were tested for SARS-CoV-2 with 7 positive cases include 5 ILI and 2 SARI cases.
In March 2022, National Influenza Surveillance sentinel sites collected 278 samples for Influenza and SARS-CoV-2 virus testing. There were 194 samples from Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) at 9 sites in 5 provinces (Figure 1). There were 84 samples from Influenza-Like Illness Surveillance at 17 sites in 16 provinces (Figure 1). Among 278 samples, 1 sample was positive for A/H9N2 detected from a SARI sentinel site. Also, 278 samples were tested for SARS-CoV-2 with 54 positive cases include 24 ILI and 30 SARI cases.
In February 2022, National Influenza Surveillance sentinel sites collected 197 samples tested with all negative Influenza viruses. There were 130 samples from Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) at 9 sites in 5 provinces (Figure 1). There were 67 samples from Influenza-Like Illness Surveillance at 17 sites in 16 provinces (Figure 1). 197 samples were also tested for SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR with 24 positive cases included 3 SARI and 21 ILI cases detected in February 2022.
In January 2022, National Influenza Surveillance sentinel sites collected 179 samples tested with all negative Influenza viruses. There were 108 samples from Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) at 9 sites in 5 provinces (Figure 1). There were 71 samples from Influenza-Like Illness Surveillance at 17 sites in 16 provinces (Figure 1). 179 samples were also tested for SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR with 2 positive cases included 1 SARI and 1 ILI cases detected in January 2022.
